Human Library

Given two options of reading a book vs listening to the author explaining the same in live physically, which one do you pick? I would go with the second option and I have a strong feeling that many will choose the same. Though each option has its own pros and cons, I feel it's effective when one gets to interact personally.

Everyone has their own story and some stories are worth sharing and can truly be motivational and inspiring. Their journey itself speaks a lot and some love sharing it in public. So, wouldn't it be a great idea to have a discussion about life, experiences and whatnot with a group on a regular basis?. Yes, you heard me right and this is how HUMAN LIBRARY evolved. This is a nonprofit organization, registered in Denmark. Every person who has experienced prejudice, social exclusion or stigma comes here to share their story is called a Human book. The place where the discussions are organized is a library and this is how you can visit these human libraries and explore human books as a reader.

If you have a strong feeling that your story could inspire and bring a change, all you have to do is register on their website and clear a small interview. Once cleared, you will be considered as a book and people come to hear your story as to how people go to the library to read books.

All of this was started a long back in London and since then, it is being spread to various cities in India. Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and many major metro cities already had their first event and if you want to go out and hear some stories, check out the Fb page of the Human Library and set your reminders for next event.

Some books can change the way you think and the more you read, the broader gets your perspective. There is a famous quote which goes as "There's no such thing as a mistake. There are only experiences. Some are good and some are bad. Either way, It is an experience we learn from".
